Farewell La La Land!

Hello everyone! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, my internship program in the United States has officially come to an end :(Since it is a special occasion, in this blog I would like to explain what this year living and working in Los Angeles has meant to me.

The first thing I would like to say is that in my life I would not have imagined starting my career as an architect like this. This idea of living the American dream has always been just that, a dream. But fortunately, the dream came true, and you can’t imagine how happy I am about it. I still remember my first day here like it was yesterday. I was lost, the culture shock was really hard on several occasions. I felt lonely as I had left all my family and friends behind and even though I was in awe of the city, a part of me was still looking back.

I guess this is a common feeling for all young professionals who started this adventure. The positive part is that, at least in my case, that was only at the beginning. Once I started to adapt to the (crazy) pace of life in this city, I met new people who, to this day, I consider my best friends.

Regarding work, I have already explained in several blogs that in my country, Spain, it is not easy to start working as a young architect who has recently graduated. Possibly this is the best difference coming here. After a year working in one of the best studios in the city, I feel like I can handle everything! I have had great challenges, great rewards, bad days in which I thought I was not cut out for this, and good days in which I felt like a great architect.

Looking back now that I’m done, I have no doubt that I would do it again. I am proud of my first year as a professional. I have had the opportunity to work with a great international team. And in just one year, I can say that I have participated in 7 important projects in the city of Los Angeles, something that will really boost my professional career.

And lastly, I wouldn’t want to say goodbye without thanking Architect-US for this opportunity. Without them, I could not have achieved this dream that I can already say that I have crossed off my to-do list of my life. I definitely recommend the program without hesitation and encourage anyone considering working in the US to do so.

Thank you all for following me on this journey, see you in the next one!
