When you come to Florida you know that hurricane season extends for some months and you have some chances to catch one but is difficult that you make your mind about it. When people start to gather water and goods and the governor orders evacuation of some areas you realize that it may be serious.
The week before was stressing for everyone but for a complete novice foreigner could be even worse, I was overwhelmed by all the different opinions, people leaving the state while some others decided to stay in safe places. Luckily we were invited to a real experienced “Florida” people house to expend the weekend during the curfew. They call it “Hurricane Party”. It is basically spend the time watching the updates in the radio and TV to be aware of sudden tornadoes (in which case you need to run downstairs and hide in the most centered room of the house) until power goes. Then the time for beer and wine start and you stay indoors until government releases the curfew. At the end was a little bit scary but I am very thankful to our American friends that made us feel safer.
The sound of the wind is something that we will never forget but definitely, now we can say we are real Floridians!
