For most of us that have pets back in our home country it is hard to live far away from them! I have 6 animals back in Argentina and I definitely miss them a lot! Getting a dog or cat abroad might be tricky, since we are only here for a period of time: getting the new pet back to our country of origin would be complicated and expensive but returning it to the shelter you have got it from or abandon it it´s totality unacceptable.
Just be sure to plan it ahead and assume the responsibility if you decide to adopt a pet. Take into consideration that most landlords will charge a pet fee when you move in with an animal, and that they require time and dedication too.
I was lucky that my roommate had two cats already, so when we moved to our new place together I couldn’t be happier to adopt Scout and Darla! So I can enjoy her kittie´s company but I am not responsible of them when I have to go back to Argentina.
Another thing I did before I had the cats was visiting local shelters. There you can hang out with the animals, play with them and they accept volunteers too in most cases if you want to help!
