FARNSWORTH HOUSE IN CHICAGO

IF YOU ARE GOING TO CHICAGO AND YOU HAVE A CAR….YOU SHOULD VISIT IT!

Hello everyone!

I went recently to Chicago, and as my friends had a car, I took them to the Farnsworth House in Plano, the iconic House designed by Mies van der Rohe for Dr. Edith Farnsworth in 1945 and built in 1951. Plano is 1 hour away from Chicago if you are paying tolls, but if not is 1 hour and a half.

The ticket is $20 for the visit and taking pictures of the exterior, and $30 if you want to take pictures inside the house. You can book it online or through phone, and is recommended for assuring the place in the tour, as the house is small and the amount of people inside has to be regulated. You should know in advance that for entering the house you need to take your shoes off, so you need to go with socks, as walking barefoot is not allowed. As the surrounding is grass and mud, recommended not to go with your better shoes in case they can get ruined.

A guide leaded us towards the house while explaining the story about the designing, construction, flood and rehabilitation of the house. Inside he was also explaining the furniture and the disposition, very nice and interesting to hear.

We were lucky for having such a sunny day, as you can see in the picture, hope you are as well if you decide to visit it!
