NYC MARATHON

It was Friday in the office and the Happy Hour had just started when someone announced he was running in the marathon on Sunday. The marathon? THE NYC MARATHON? Had I known before…

It takes some time though. Several months before runners start planning this great event, not only in the gym. The application process begins the previous year with the New York Road Runners Program, meeting the Time-Qualifying Standards and volunteering in other related events. Besides the entry fees varies from $255 and $360 depending on the citizenship status and there are precise clothing suggestions for all the runners, like the Post-Race Poncho in case of bad weather (a must whenever running in NYC). They even offer a virtual trainer!

The scope of this event still surprises me. There is nearly one decade of New York City Marathon history, connecting Staten Island, Brooklyn, The Bronx and Manhattan with floods of runners. Literally. When on Sunday I went to grab a coffee and go for a walk around my neighborhood I was shocked. Ten of thousands of people, runners and supporters, filling all the street with colors and movement. I thought to myself: this is something to do once in a lifetime.

If you feel curious you can take a look at the official website. Next steps for 2017 Marathon are now available!
