Times three

One month in NYC equals three months in any other busy place in the world, that being conservative.

The city is so dense and crowed that everything is accelerated. It feels like if you put a theme park on a blender. People come and go rushing, business open and close weekly, workers shifts jobs monthly, housemates move in and out daily, new things happening right in front of you every single second.

That’s the pace of this city, times three. Four the first weeks your eyes will burn and your ears will bleed until they accommodate to this new density, so many inputs that you will feel like you they put something in your coffee.

Your mind will be saturated with the avalanche of information and sensations that will feel almost exhausted until you get used to it. So many lights, so many different people, so many noises, so many things happening at the same time.

You are sweating, a traffic jam, an ambulance, flash lights, a new restaurant, where is this street?, a klaxon, a nice girl, a guy asking for change, I’m thirsty, a crowed coffee shop, a cyclist with a stereo, an AC leaking in your head, a street vendor selling pineapples, … all that happening in your face in a second, and the next second is as dense, and the next and the next.

That’s your new standard, whatever times three.
