Hi everyone!

My name is Sara, and I’m an architect based in Milan, Italy. In just a few weeks, I’ll be trading the streets of the Duomo for the skyline of New York City. I’m about to begin an 18-month Architecture and Engineering Traineeship Program at S9 Architecture and Engineering.

My background in Milan

I studied at Politecnico di Milano, where I earned my Master’s degree in Building Architecture in April 2022. Since then, I’ve been working as a licensed architect in international architecture studios in Milan. During this time, I’ve had the chance to explore a wide range of fields, including public spaces, hospitality, landscape design, renovation, and logistics.

Overall, Milan has been a wonderful place to grow as a professional. It’s a city where historic architecture and cutting-edge design are in constant dialogue. As a result, I learned to balance creativity with the technical precision this profession demands.

How I found Architect US

I first came across Architect US while doing some research online. After speaking with the team, I decided to join the program. To start, I had my resume and portfolio evaluated by the Architect US committee. In turn, they gave me useful tips to improve my documentation before joining the pool of candidates.

At that point, my first choices for my traineeship were Chicago, Boston, and New York.

Eight months to New York

From there, it took eight months to find the right architecture company to welcome me for this experience. During that time, I received steady guidance and support. First, I was helped by the Architect US advisors. Later, my sponsor stepped in to help me navigate all the documentation required for the J-1 visa.

What’s next

Right now, I’m waiting on the very last step of this journey: my consulate appointment. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly, because I can’t wait to finally get my visa. Soon, I’ll start this new chapter of my life in New York!
