Hi everyone!
My name is Ana, and I’m a recent architecture graduate about to start one of the most exciting adventures of my life. In just a few days, I’ll be moving to the United States to begin an architectural internship in New Jersey. It still feels a little surreal to say that!
Before sharing everything that happens during this experience, I thought I’d introduce myself and tell you a little about how I got here.
I was born and raised in Venezuela, but a few years ago I made the decision to move to Madrid, Spain, to study architecture. Leaving home wasn’t easy, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Living abroad taught me how to adapt to new environments, meet people from different backgrounds, and embrace new opportunities.
While I still was in university, I knew I wanted to gain professional experience in an international environment before starting my career in Spain. That’s when I discovered the opportunity to do an internship in the United States with the help of Architect-US.
The timing couldn’t have been busier, as I was finishing my Master’s while planning my next steps. However, Architect-US made the entire process much easier. They helped me find an internship that matched my interests and guided me through every stage of the application. The part that worried me the most was the visa process, especially the appointment and interview at the U.S. Embassy. Thankfully, their support helped me feel much more prepared and at ease, despite the delays I experienced. In the end, everything went smoothly, and I was only there for about an hour.
Now, I’m incredibly excited to join an architecture firm in the U.S., where I’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, discover a different way of practicing architecture, and continue to grow both professionally and personally.
Outside of work, one of my biggest passions is traveling. I’m looking forward to exploring New Jersey, visiting New York City, discovering new places, trying different food, and experiencing American culture firsthand. I believe that living abroad is about much more than work. It’s about learning from every experience and every person you meet along the way, and I couldn’t be more excited for this new chapter to begin.
I’m sure this year will challenge me, but I know it will also open many doors for my future. I’ll be sharing my experiences, the lessons I learn, and hopefully a few fun adventures too.
