December has been a pretty hectic month, but honestly, it’s been the best one so far. I was really surprised (and happy) when I found out that Bell Design Group in LA closes for the holidays, so I ended up having almost two weeks of vacation.
That break was perfect because my family came to visit me from Spain. It’s been a while since I saw them, so having them here was great. Since I didn’t have to work, I became their full-time tour guide. It’s funny how you start to feel like a “local” after just a few months.
The only bad luck we had was the weather. You expect California to always be sunny, but it actually rained almost every day while they were here. We had to check the forecast constantly and really take advantage of the few sunny days to do all the outdoor sightseeing.
When the sun finally came out, we rushed to do the typical tourist stuff. We went up to the Griffith Observatory to see the views of the city and the Hollywood sign. We also walked around Hollywood, which is always crowded but you have to see it at least once. We managed to spend a nice afternoon at Venice Beach, walking by the ocean and checking out the canals before the clouds came back.
Since we had plenty of days, we decided to rent a car and drive down to San Diego for a day trip. It’s not too far from LA, and it was nice to see a different city. It feels a bit more relaxed there compared to the traffic in Los Angeles.
But the best part of the trip was definitely the basketball game. My family loves the NBA, they watch all the games back home even when they are on TV really late at night. So, I bought tickets for the Lakers vs. Kings game. Seeing their faces when we got into the arena was awesome. The atmosphere is totally different from watching it on TV. It’s loud, there’s music constantly, and the show is huge. We had a really good time cheering for the Lakers inside the arena, safe from the rain outside!
Now that they are gone, it’s a bit quiet again, but I’m glad I had that time off to show them around. I feel rested after the two-week break and ready to get back to the studio and start the new year.
