Hudson Valley Shakespeare has opened the Samuel H. Scripps Theater Center in Garrison, New York, completing a six-year project that gives the company its first permanent home. Designed by Studio Gang in collaboration with Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, the new campus turns the company’s long-standing outdoor performance model into a year-round cultural and educational venue embedded in the Hudson Valley landscape.
Set on a 40-hectare site overlooking the Hudson Highlands, the project includes a 451-seat open-air auditorium framed by a curved mass-timber structure designed by Jeanne Gang. Alongside the 632-square-metre theater, the campus adds rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, offices, concessions and public amenities, improving accessibility, circulation and the range of cultural and educational programming the company can offer.
