My name is Mariana, and I’m an architecture intern currently working at Mark Poe Builders in Nashville, Tennessee!
I’ve just completed my first month of this exciting internship, and I’d love to share a bit about what the experience has been like so far.
During this initial phase, it’s been an incredible opportunity to get to know the company, the team, and the projects currently in development. From day one, I’ve felt truly welcomed and supported. I’ve participated in project meetings both in the office and on-site, and these visits have given me a much clearer understanding of the scale, materials, and overall construction process involved in residential design here in the U.S. This experience has truly convinced me that residential architecture and high-end construction are the paths I want to pursue in my career, and I look forward to incorporating these technologies into my future projects.
I’ve also had the chance to observe client meetings, which provided valuable insight into how Mark Poe Builders manages client communication, timelines, and project goals as a general contractor. These experiences have helped me improve my architectural and construction vocabulary in English, and have given me a better understanding of how design and cultural expectations in the U.S.—particularly in Nashville—differ from what I’m used to in Mexico. It’s also been a great introduction to the fundamentals of construction project management and the wide range of responsibilities contractors handle daily.
Outside of work, I’ve started exploring Nashville—visiting local architectural landmarks, trying new foods, listening to new artists and immersing myself in the city’s vibrant culture. It’s a fascinating blend of tradition, music, and contemporary growth, and I’m enjoying every moment of discovering it.
I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead—continuing to learn, grow, and contribute however I can. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity and excited for everything still to come!
