As an architect passionate about design and cultural exchange, this journey has already been both fulfilling and exciting! A couple of months ago, I received an amazing opportunity to pursue a summer internship in Nashville, Tennessee, working for Mark Poe Builders. This opportunity truly means a lot to me, as it will allow me to immerse myself in American culture, learn about the industry from a new perspective, and explore their technologies and construction processes.
Together, my host company and I began searching for a sponsor who could guide us through the J-1 visa process. That’s when we found Architect-US!
This process has definitely been a learning experience. At the beginning, I was concerned about how long everything might take — especially the visa process and gathering all the necessary documents and qualifications. There were moments when things felt uncertain, but thanks to the incredible guidance and support from Architect-US, I was able to move through each step with more confidence.
The experience has taught me to stay flexible, persistent, and calm, even when things didn’t happen as quickly as I hoped.
I can’t wait to learn more about the American work environment through this cultural exchange program, as well as develop new skills, improve my English — especially technical terms — and experience life in Nashville, a city full of creativity, culture, music, and history.
Right now, I’m busy preparing for my move and embassy interview: packing, finalizing paperwork, and getting ready for this exciting new chapter. I’m looking forward to growing professionally during this experience and building connections that will last a lifetime. On a personal level, I know this experience will also be incredibly fulfilling, helping me become more self-confident, learn more about myself, and gain greater clarity about what my next steps in life might be.
For anyone thinking about taking this step: believe in yourself and be patient with the process. It’s an unforgettable adventure that’s truly worth it! I’m incredibly excited for what’s ahead.
