It’s hard to believe it’s already been ten months since I joined Kellogg Architects Inc.—time has flown by, and this journey has been incredibly enriching both professionally and personally. During this time, I’ve not only deepened my knowledge of architecture and design, but I’ve also grown significantly as a specialist. Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, and I truly feel that I’m evolving into a much more confident and capable architect.
Working at Kellogg Architects has been a rewarding experience from day one. The team is supportive and collaborative, and Martin, our principal architect, is especially encouraging when it comes to helping students and young professionals grow. He’s always willing to share his expertise and answer questions with patience and insight, creating an environment that’s both inspiring and empowering.
Throughout my time here, I’ve contributed to around ten projects, each with its own unique challenges. My primary responsibility has been to build accurate Revit models and prepare detailed permit sets. When I first started, I had only a basic understanding of Revit. But through hands-on experience and constant practice, I’ve become much more confident and proficient. Today, I can take on complex modeling tasks with precision, and I’ve learned how to approach intricate architectural elements with attention to detail and creativity.
One of the most valuable aspects of my work has been the opportunity to work on the renovation of historic Victorian-style homes, which are so characteristic of San Francisco. These projects require a deep understanding of architectural heritage and demand a meticulous approach to reproducing original façades, floor plans, and fine detailing. I’ve also learned to consider the broader urban context, ensuring that our designs integrate seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Being able to model these historic homes down to the smallest details has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding—it’s a skill I now carry proudly into every project.
In addition to Revit, I’ve gained practical experience with tools like Lumion, Rhino, SketchUp, and Photoshop, expanding my design toolkit and allowing me to contribute to different phases of the design process—from early visualization to final presentation. These tools have helped me communicate design intent clearly and creatively, and I feel much more versatile as a result.
Another part of my role that I deeply enjoy is going on site visits. Whenever we begin a new project, we visit the property to meet with clients, take measurements, photographs, and perform scans of the existing conditions. This on-site experience is essential for creating accurate models and permit sets, and it’s also one of the most engaging parts of the process. I love taking measurements—it allows me to connect with the physical space and truly understand its potential. It’s also a great way to improve spatial thinking and architectural intuition.
Meeting with clients has also helped me grow professionally. These interactions are not just about collecting information—they’re about understanding people’s lifestyles, dreams, and visions for their homes. It’s a chance to develop empathy, communication skills, and the ability to translate ideas into meaningful design solutions. Each conversation adds depth to the work we do.
Outside of work, living in San Francisco has been an adventure in itself. This city is like a living, breathing museum—vibrant, dynamic, and full of surprises. Its famous hills, eclectic neighborhoods, and cultural landmarks make every weekend feel like a mini vacation. There’s no shortage of places to explore: from world-class museums and galleries to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, Sutro Baths, and the lively Embarcadero. Every corner of this city has something to offer, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to live and work here.
Looking back, I can confidently say that these past ten months have transformed me into a more skilled, knowledgeable, and self-assured architect. I’m grateful for the experience, the mentorship, and the challenges that have shaped me—and I’m excited to continue growing and contributing even more in the future.
