The state prison in San Quentin, California will be redesigned by Schmidt Hammer Lassen and DLR Group

The state prison in San Quentin, California, will be redesigned and converted into a rehabilitation center that will use influences from the Scandinavian prison system. The redesign will be done by Danish architectural firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen and U.S. firm DLR Group. Renderings of the project show facades clad with a variety of beveled tiles. The entrance is surrounded by green spaces, walking paths and seating. The facility will include “a campus-like educational facility” with classrooms, a library, a technology and media center, a store and a cafeteria.
