A former tobacco warehouse from the 1910s has been converted by U.S. architecture firm Studio Gang into studios with a massive outdoor shade structure for the University of Kentucky’s College of Design. The 12,210-square-meter building will now house the entire College of Design , as well as landscape architecture programs and a biomedical engineering studio. Updates to the building include the addition of a staircase in the central lobby, a double-height lecture hall, movable furniture and cartoon walls, and a “structural canopy” that extends along one side.
