An affordable, all-electric housing complex has been completed by the architectural firm Brooks + Scarpa in Santa Monica. The project, called 1819 Pico, is a departure from the area’s typical “defensive apartment buildings” with their solid walls and fences. The building, 4,850 square feet in total, consists of volumes of varying sizes that wrap around a central courtyard. The team divided the mass to create social areas and make the building more open and welcoming.
