A renovated a century-old house in California

Local studio Martin Fenlon Architecture has renovated a century-old house in California. The project updated and expanded a 1920s home located in the historic Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The renovated house totals 255 square meters: on the first floor, the team added an L-shaped volume at the rear that allowed for a new kitchen, bathroom and laundry room, along with extending the pre-existing dining room and family room. The new volume is sunken below the main level, allowing for a smooth flow between the common spaces and the rear courtyard. Formerly these spaces were at mid-height above the courtyard.
