After months of preparation, I finally made the move to San Diego to start my traineeship at HGW Architecture. I was excited to be part of a team of talented architects and designers and learn from their expertise. My first month at the firm has been an incredible experience, filled with exciting challenges, learning opportunities, and exploration of the city. Here’s a recap of my journey so far:
Getting Acquainted with the Work Environment
As soon as I walked into HGW Architecture’s studio, I knew I was in a place where creativity and innovation thrive. The open, collaborative space encourages teamwork and supports the generation of ideas. I was assigned to work on graphic concept designs for requests of proposal, diagrams, and presentations. These projects were challenging, but they were also an excellent opportunity to showcase my skills and learn new ones. My colleagues were incredibly supportive and helpful, and I quickly got acquainted with the workflow.
Weekly Staff Meetings and Technical Workshops
One of the things I appreciate about HGW Architecture is the firm’s emphasis on learning and growth. The management organizes weekly staff meetings and technical workshops to keep everyone up-to-date with the latest software and industry trends. These meetings and workshops are a great way to learn new skills and stay on track with the team’s objectives. I find it inspiring to be part of a culture that values continuous improvement and innovation.
Exploring San Diego
Outside of work, I spent most of my weekends exploring San Diego. The city has so much to offer, from the Gaslamp Quarter’s vibrant nightlife to the San Diego Zoo’s world-renowned animal exhibits. I also visited the Balboa Park, where I marveled at the impressive architecture and beautiful gardens. The local cuisine is fantastic, and I had the chance to try some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever tasted. I’ve met some friendly and welcoming people who have made my transition to San Diego much smoother.
Looking Forward to the Future
As I look forward to the rest of my traineeship at HGW Architecture, I am excited to contribute to the firm’s growth and success. I hope to learn more from my colleagues, take on more challenging projects, and continue exploring the city. San Diego is a beautiful place, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be here. I am confident that my experience here will be valuable in my career as an architect and as a person.
