Hi Architect-US crew!
Can’t believe that it has been more than 2 months since I came to the US! I was lucky enough to arrive here before the cold season started… Because let me tell you… It really makes a difference while navigating the city!
During this time I have had the pleasure of meeting different Chicagoans that have shown me amazing parts of town, and even if the weather is as cold as it gets it has been a blast! From Logan to Pilsen, I am amazed by the wide variety of neighborhoods and how strong and characteristic their identity is. It really feels like there are many different cities engulfed in a bigger one.
My advice to anyone thinking about moving here (or maybe just visiting), is to get a Ventra card (public transportation fare) and try to visit as many different areas as possible. Even if the Loop is a very dense area, the truth is outside of there the city vastly spreads out. The notorious personality of each one of the neighborhoods gives a very multipolar character to Chicago. Many of these areas that are on the west and/or southern parts of the city have been transformed during the last years and they keep maintaining this bubbly and vibrant feeling.
I can’t wait for the good weather to finally arrive (although I think I will have to wait a bit longer) and experience the city, urban life, and Lake Michigan fully! I am loving how a very busy feeling gets mixed with a coziness difficult to find in any other city of this size, and I am really looking forward to keep exploring!
Can’t stress enough how grateful I feel for everything I’m learning, both culturally and career-wise, and couldn’t be more grateful for the whole Architect-US team for working hard and making it happen!
