Architect-US

From Madrid to NYC

After months of anticipation, I have finally moved to NYC, and I could not be happier! Pandemic and Covid-19 elongated the process of moving, but I am excited to have started my trainee program at ALAO with the help of Architect-US.

I had visited New York City multiple times as a tourist before but living and working in the city has been completely a different experience. I am an architect from Spain, and I have been working in an architecture studio in Denmark for the last few years. After working in Copenhagen for three and a half years, I decided it was time for new challenges and move to a new city. I have always wanted to live in New York City, so this is a dream come true.

Finding a place to work was not an easy task and borders being closed throughout the pandemic had made it a lot harder for me to interview for positions in New York. After months of applying for jobs from home, I decided to visit the city for a few days in order to connect with different architecture offices in person. Meeting the offices and having in person interviews definitely made things easier, and I was able to find the right match.

As soon as I received an offer, I contacted Architect-US and in less than 2 months I got my J-1 Visa approved. Architect-Us and Chamber of Commerce were always really helpful, and I really appreciate their support. I had lots of questions during the process, and they always made sure everything was clear.

I am really excited to start this new experience in New York City. I will keep you updated!
