VERSE 8: FALL, HARVEST FESTIVAL, PUMPKINGS, COLOURFULL TREES AND THE ART OF LAYERING

It is interesting how new the seasons are to me. I came from a city where the weather is almost always the same, but during my time in the USA I have been privileged to experience 3 of the 4 seasons of the year. At the beginning of fall I did not see any visible changes, although I felt it was starting to get chilly. The turning point for me was center city harvest festival.

HARVEST FESTIVAL:

It was October´s first Friday that I decided to begin the weekend with a new cultural activity, go to center city’s Harvest festival. The evening was lovely, the sunset was stunning, and the public decoration was something I have never seen before. Somehow they designed all the decoration with Pumpkins, corns and hay, which was remarkable. Food trucks and food were also part of the experience, so I decided to try it out.

Harvest grill was the menu’s concept, drinks and seasonal food was available. I decided to try a harvest burger with waffle fries and hot Jim beam apple spiked pressed cider, I enjoyed my dinner while I was entertained with the afro beats music a DJ was mixing at the park.

PUMPKINS:

I have never seen that many pumpkins decorations, spices and toppings since I was born. I was told that all over the US pumpkins are a thing during fall season, I tried new varieties of pumpkins that I did not know existed, I saw how the carving practice is done and I even tried pumpkin drinks. After this season I can surely name many more ways of using pumpkins than what I could think of a year ago.

COLOURFULL TREES:

I was not expecting that fall would be so vibrant. It have been exciting to find unusual colorful trees all around. The first fall color trees that I saw was on my trip to Washington D.C. it was stunning to walk through all the civic complex in this season of the year, after that trip while exploring Philly I was constantly taking pictures of leaves and trees that were aesthetically amusing to my eyes, I would not have thought of finding that much color around.

THE ART OF LAYERING:

Photoshop and Illustrator layering skills did not help me this time, if you are experiencing fall for the first time layering is a skill you will need since the weather for this time of the year changes a lot, it can be sunny and then rain or it can be warm and the cold, if it is possible get yourself a raincoat, waterproof boots, sweaters and jerseys that you can easily place on top of another and take off as needed.

Thank you for sticking around all the way through this post, stay tuned, see you on verse 9!
