VERSE 10: NEW YEAR´S DAY, MUMMERS PARADE, READING TERMINAL MARKET

Things  changes, time passes and the 365 days cycle starts over again, this time the New Year found me abroad.

MUMMERS PARADE

While going to church on Sunday I sensed something was definitely taking place in south Philly, some streets where closed and a lot of police officers were walking around. I kept walking not being aware of what was taking place. Couple blocks after I stumbled across a group of men wearing colorful and impressive costumes, there was when I remembered Philly’s Mummers parade.

The Mummers parade was a display of coordinated choreography, special effects, acting and live music of different Mummers groups. This event drew a ton of people to the city hall area and it was even being broadcasted.

The theme was Mardi Gras, it was impressive seeing how the discipline and efforts of the contestant groups created such art. I definitely will not forget the stunning costumes.

READING TERMINAL MARKET

The day after New Year’s Day I hang out with a friend I met at Bridge us training program in Washington DC, we explored Philly and were able to get cheesecakes in center city at 9:00 am, everyone asked us “where did y’all get that?  it looks delicious” the answer was the reading terminal market.

This market that according to www.visitphilly.com was first opened in 1983 and currently one of the greatest public markets in the states, was impressive. There where so many different culinary experiences representing different cultures within the US and abroad. If you are around center city and crave for a snack there you will find plenty options to choose from, even live lobsters.

Thank you for reading all the way until the end, this abroad experience is coming to an end, see you in verse 11.
