Taiko Legacy

Hello Architect-US crew!

In this blog post, I want to dive into one of the many cultural activities that a city like Chicago has to offer. Thanks to a project that my office, Wheeler & Kearns, is working on, I got to experience my first Taiko concert!

Diverse projects

One of the best things about my experience at Wheeler & Kearns is without any doubt the diverse typology of projects we get to develop. First and foremost, the amount of people you have to interact with to get the project going is so varied. This opens the door to everlasting client relationships, cultural events, and enriching networking. That would be the case for this specific client, who among many other things, is the director and founder of the Asian Improv Arts Midwest.

Cultural Exchange

Trying to build bridges between Asian and American cultures, this organization has connected top-tier international performances, artists, and community leaders while operating from Chicago.

Exposure and sharing

As some colleagues of mine are working hand in hand with the director, we got invited to the MCA for a Taiko annual concert. I have always loved and felt connected to Japanese culture but have never heard of Taiko music. Listening to those drums live was so impressive! I didn´t know what to expect, but it certainly succeeded all of my expectations. The concert lasted three hours, but time flew. Seeing so many artists, from different backgrounds and ages, perform in such synchronicity was delightful. I am for sure a Taiko fan since this concert!

The number of people I have met is so diverse since I started living in Chicago, that I can’t think of a better experience to have as a young architect! From the wide range of projects to be part of to all the people, clients, and friends you will meet along the way.
