Every summer since 1986, a series of free concerts called Summerstage have been held in Central Park. It started as a small music festival and now is one of the most anticipated free events of summer in New York City.SummerStage is one of the highlights of the summer in NYC for music fans. It takes place almost every day from June 2nd through September 27th, as many of the city’s parks and outdoor spaces in all five boroughs. The main stage is located at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park.
Most of SummerStage’s tickets are free but you can check for tickets at the SummerStage official website.
The easiest way to get there is to take the subway. Take the 6 train to 68th St-Hunter College Station and enter the park at Fifth Ave and 72nd St.
A few tips for the concerts:
– Arrive early to get good seats, doors open at 5:30 p.m. Because most events are free, they tend to be really crowded.
– To get into the event, do not bring any glass or any alcohol. They check bags thoroughly and will take these items away.
– Even if you have no ticket, you can hear (and picnic) PERFECTLY right outside the venue.
– There are bleachers in the back where you can sit. The stage is pretty large so you can see a good amount from wherever you stand. There’s a fake grass area right in front of the stage where you can sit on.
