This is the largest municipal identification card program in the country and applicants only need to fill out an application and present a proof of identity and residency in New York City, accepting many different documents. IDNYC card holders are able to access public services and programs that the city offers. As J1 visa holder I find it helpful to possess an identification card provided by the city that it is recognizable and accepted as proof of identification in most of private and public institutions.
Moreover, and here is in my opinion, the largest win on the NYCID, a dynamic series of additional benefits are available for the cardholders including the opportunity to sign up for a free one year membership at many of the City’s leading museums, zoos, concert halls, and botanical gardens. The IDNYC card offers also discounts on movie tickets, sporting events, prescription drugs, fitness and health centers, supermarkets.
