RIBA North will be the new national architecture centre of The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the first one outside of London.
Designed by Broadway Malyan, RIBA North will open on 17 June on the Liverpool Waterfront, and is intended to be a place where the large public can learn more about architecture. Exhibitions, conferences, talks, tours, a café and a shop will be the tools to reach that goal. As RIBA stated:
RIBA North will be an inspirational resource for both our members and the public – championing architects, architecture and good design.
The opening exhibition will be ‘Liverpool(e): Mover, Shaker, Architectural Risk-Taker’, about Liverpool’s architectural history, so audacious and risky as the 3D digital city model that will be displayed to prove it. The exhibition will also include items from the acclaimed international RIBA Collections and a film with interviews from Joseph Sharples, Michael Wilford, Natalia Maximova and Ian Ritchie.
