Arrival, my first impressions about USA

My colleagues from Inglese Architecture and Engineering are very kind and nice people. With them I feel like at home.

I can’t believe it has been two weeks already since my arrival in the USA. I must admit that first impressions about USA is that everything seems so different and chaotic at this stage. My colleagues from Inglese Architecture and Engineering are very kind and nice people. With them I feel like at home. All of them are very kind and specially two of my colleagues are helping me a lot with finding an apartment and other things such as taking me to IKEA to buy furniture and others.

However one of my first impressions about USA, is the difficulty  renting an apartment. I haven’t been very lucky with the studio apartment I have found. East Rutherford is very expensive and leases for one person alone are extremely difficult to face. I tried to find a roommate or a shared apartment but it is not easy since this area tends to be more family type. However, East Rutherford is very well located. It is only 30 minutes by train to Manhattan. I haven’t gone to Manhattan yet but hopefully I will soon. Also, this area which is a sort of suburb requires a car for everything. So unless you have a car available, it is very difficult to buy groceries or going to another part of the area. Distances are not as close as they seem on Google maps and it is impossible to cross some parts on foot as there are highways everywhere instead of streets.

What I have enjoyed most until now was going to IKEA with my colleague Gabriel and the aventure of trying to fit everything in the car. It was really fun!
