Architect-US and its exchange participants from all over the world are very pleased to have been invited by the Cultural Affairs Office of the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C. to the AIA|DC Architecture Month Opening Party, presenting the exhibitions “EXPORT“ and “ALTERNATIVES“ that will be held next April 6th, 6-8.30pm, at the Former Residence of the Spain Ambassador in Washington.
Both exhibitions could be visited from April 6 through June 4, 2017 at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain, 2801 16th St, NW, Washington DC 20009
EXPORT, SPANISH ARCHITECTURE ABROAD
Curated by Edgar Gonzalez, EXPORT is a visual narrative of the great talent of Spanish architects working abroad. The exhibition discusses both traditional practices and emerging areas in architecture, while helping viewers appreciate the greater challenges that Spanish architects face today.
ALTERNATIVAS/ALTERNATIVES
The thirteenth Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial (XIII BEAU), entitled Alternativas / Alternatives, features 22 jury selected projects. Many of the works presented, under the categories of Heritage, Planning and Innovation, employ sustainable practices and rely on local materials. The projects showcase the ability of Spanish architects to formulate innovative solutions with both a limited budget and modest resources.
Other cultural activities during the next monts will be the lecture RETHINKING MUSEUM ARCHITECTURE (April 26), and the film screenings THE NEW RIJKSMUSEUM (May 24) about the ambitious renovation of the Dutch museum by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos. and SIDEWALLS (MEDIANERAS) on May 31.
