The redesign of the Modernist sculpture garden at the Hirshhorn Museum on the National Mall has been approved by the Washington National Capital Planning Commission, The project recognizes the contributions of Gordon Bunshaft, Hirshhorn’s original architect, and Lester Collins, who reconsidered the garden in 1981. Hiroshi Sugimoto’s challenge now is to anticipate how art will be created, exhibited and shared in a public setting.
