Prior moving to Portland one of my concerns was the weather.
When talking to people from here, they have told me that it hardly snows in Portland (maybe once a winter). However in the past two months, we have had five snow storms being the last one the biggest snowfall (at a time) in the past 50 years.
I have lived in Michigan before, where we have had a lot of snow over the winter. However it is interesting to see how it affects the city and daily life here in Portland. Due to the temperature, which is usually quite close to freezing point, the snow packs into a layer of ice. The roads and sidewalks become very dangerous and the city doesn’t have enough logistics to support such a big snowfall. Over the past week most business and transportation infrastructure were closed.
Even thought all of the chaos the snow storm has caused, it was one of the prettiest landscapes I have seen, a true winter wonderland.
