Herzog & de Meuron and EHDD reimagine a mid-century warehouse for the Eames Institute

The Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity has unveiled plans for a new cultural destination in Marin County, California, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and EHDD. The project will transform a mid-century modern warehouse into a multidisciplinary campus with galleries, learning spaces, a theater, dining areas, and the Institute’s archives, while Field Operations will lead the redesign of the surrounding 88.5-acre landscape.

Originally completed in the 1960s, the building is known for its distinctive folded concrete roof and has served several different uses over the decades. Its new chapter will center on adaptive reuse, preserving the character of the existing structure while opening it up to exhibitions, events, and creative exchange. The museum is currently in the early review and permitting stages, with completion planned for 2030.
