ZGF Architects has unveiled the design for a new museum dedicated to the Navy SEALs on San Diego’s waterfront, a project conceived to connect the urban environment of Lane Field Park with the city’s waterfront. The proposal stands out for its metallic volumes, angular geometries, and an aesthetic inspired by the precision and resilience associated with the special operations of this U.S. military unit.
The building incorporates elements such as perforated metal screens, strategically placed frames on the façade, and a large 20-meter-high atrium designed to create an immersive experience from the moment visitors enter. The project also includes educational spaces for young people, interactive public areas, a café, and an outdoor reflecting pool intended to recreate the symbolic image of a SEAL team emerging from the water.
