David Chipperfield Architects designs a ceramic residential tower in Miami’s Design District

London-based David Chipperfield Architects has designed a new residential skyscraper in Miami that will be a landmark in the Miami Design District. Located at 39 NE 39th Street, the Miami Design Residences tower will have 26 floors on almost two acres and will house 143 condominiums, as well as several levels dedicated to a luxury hotel. The project is conceived as the first major residential development in this creative enclave of the city.

The building is divided into two main volumes and is completely enveloped by continuous terraces, defined by fluted white ceramic columns that run the entire height of the building. The crown and lobby are designed as double-height spaces, while integrated planters soften the presence of the complex. According to the team, the design seeks to capture and reflect Miami’s characteristic light, reinforcing the relationship between architecture, climate, and the urban environment.
