New offices designed by Derrington Building Studio

Derrington Building Studio has built its own office in Austin with an aesthetic that celebrates constructive honesty. The firm, led by Tim Derrington, opted for raw materials and exposed structures as a tribute to “American industrial practicality.” Measuring just 93 square meters, the studio stands on a corner in the Montopolis neighborhood and was designed with the possibility of being converted into a functional home in the future.

The building avoids conventional cavity wall construction—which is susceptible to moisture, mold, or pests—and instead exposes its entire wooden structure and internal systems. Each technical element thus becomes part of the architectural language, showing how simplicity and transparency can shape a warm, efficient, and expressive workspace.
