New arched pavilion in flood-resistant park in Manhattan

The new Wagner Pavilion, designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners in collaboration with AECOM, has become a symbol of urban resilience in Lower Manhattan. Clad in red concrete and featuring two wings that evoke the shape of lungs, the structure serves as a gateway to the renovated Wagner Park, offering a monumental design that combines architecture, landscape, and engineering.

In addition to its imposing presence, the pavilion integrates community functions by housing a restaurant, classrooms, and a rooftop garden with views of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty. With elements that reinforce flood resistance and planters that elevate its profile, the project stands as a benchmark in New York’s coastal adaptation.
