First Month in New York: Summer, Skylines, and So Much to Do

It’s hard to believe that my first month in New York has already flown by. The city is intense, vibrant, and — yes — veryhot in July! But honestly, the heat hasn’t stopped me from soaking it all in. There’s always something happening, something to see, or somewhere new to explore.

After work and especially on the weekends, I try to make the most of every moment. Whether it’s walking through different neighborhoods, checking out museums, or just sitting in a park people-watching, I feel like I’m slowly beginning to understand what makes this city so special.

Of course, I couldn’t resist diving into the iconic food scene right away. I’ve had my fair share of burgers already — classics like Shake Shack, 7th Street Burguer, and a few hidden gems — and I finally tried the famous cookies from Levain Bakery (totally worth the hype!). New York definitely knows how to do comfort food right.

Even with the heat, I’ve found that this is actually a great city for running. Central Park has become one of my favorite places — it’s like an oasis in the middle of the chaos, with endless routes and such a great atmosphere. I’ve also started exploring the Riverside paths, which offer beautiful views of the Hudson and amazing sunsets.

Settling into life here has been both exciting and overwhelming at times. The pace of the city is fast, but there’s also something energizing about it. Every subway ride, every overheard conversation, every little corner shop adds to the feeling that you’re living in the middle of something big. I’m learning to find my rhythm, appreciate the small victories, and let the city shape my days.

From an architect’s perspective, the city is a constant source of inspiration. Just walking down the street feels like an open-air lesson in urban design — the scale, the layers, the mix of old and new. Every day I find something that sparks my curiosity, and I can’t wait to keep learning and growing here, both personally and professionally.
