Colorful slats dress curved facade of new school addition in Los Angeles, by JFAK

John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects (JFAK) transforms Wonderland Elementary School in Los Angeles with a sculptural extension designed for early childhood learning. Two new classrooms, support spaces, and outdoor areas are integrated into the slope of the site, banking on spatial variety and contact with the environment as key pedagogical tools.

The design combines sustainability and functionality: large eaves that protect from the weather, natural light optimized through skylights and solar tubes, and child-scaled details that encourage exploration. With colorful louvers, dynamic curves and exposed materials, the building educates from its form and content.
