Two months have flown by, and I must say, it’s been an emotional rollercoaster but absolutely worth it!
Arriving in a new place is always a mix of challenges and excitement. When I got to Houston, my colleagues at RDLR told me about the Houston Rodeo. I’d never heard of it before, so they explained how it works. Honestly, it sounded so complex that I was even more excited to see it for myself.
The big day arrived, and I put together my best outfit for the occasion. The event kicked off with the cook-off, and wow, it was such a fun introduction to Texan culture. It was like stepping into a world full of food, music, and incredible energy. Events like these are exciting because they expand your perspective. showing you how people celebrate, connect, and have a good time.
And let me tell you, Texas was on full display. From the boots to the hats, the styling, and, of course, the dancing, it was all so Texan. I even tried line dancing for the first time. The choreography was simple, but hey, it counts. Plus, I got to enjoy my first BBQ, which was a whole experience in itself.
The rodeo officially started on February 27 with the cook-off and runs until March 23. So far, I’ve been three times! I’ve explored the carnival section (the games and rides were so much fun), tasted classic carnival food, visited the livestock show, and even watched country singers perform in massive stadiums. Texans definitely know how to entertain.
I’m already planning my fourth visit. I’m determined to win a stuffed animal at the carnival games! And who knows, maybe I’ll finally get those Texan boots and a hat—it feels like the perfect way to dive deeper into the culture
