New fossil museum in a New Jersey quarry

The Edelman Fossil Park & Museum, designed by Ennead Architects, blends harmoniously into the landscape of a former quarry in Mantua, New Jersey. Its Accoya wood-clad structure adapts to the site’s elevated topography, embracing the excavation shafts that are part of the tour. Powered by Rowan University, the museum offers an immersive experience in the geological history of the region.

The building, spread over two levels, houses galleries dedicated to the Late Cretaceous, a theater, a virtual reality studio and conservation spaces. It also features a café and event area, providing visitors with a unique glimpse into the prehistoric past while exploring fossils on site.
