Christmas homesickness

Second month of my stay in the States. Homesickness is starting to kick in. Especially right before the holidays, when everyone was buying all their presents, my roommates flew to see their family and that’s when it really hit me. Even if I act as if I don’t care, I do miss my friends and family and how I wished they could all come to celebrate with me.

A part of my wish actually came true! A friend of mine actually came for 10 days for a visit. It was very nice, especially because of the holidays I got a week off between Christmas and New Year’s, so I could really show them around, and we even got to go to Boston for a few days where they have some family. It’s a shame, because despite the forecasted blizzard, New York had almost no snow, only a freezing cold. On Christmas day I had to cover myself with all my sweaters to be able to make a tour of the city with my friend. Fortunately, as time went on, the temperature became more livable.

Speaking of the internship, this month I was able to attend client meetings for the first time. It was very interesting! Sometimes it’s hard to keep in mind that these people can’t necessarily visualize what we tell them. That’s why we always prepare several documents showing the same elements to make sure we understand each other. It is necessary to show a lot of patience and understanding so that everything goes smoothly.

I am also very lucky because I have a strong ability in 3D modeling and therefore my boss gives me more freedom in the design, often asking me to add my ideas to the model.

Overall, I am very happy seeing how my internship is going so far. I feel very included in my work and not doing simple intern stuff, as opposed to some of my friends. Hopefully it will stay like this (or even better)!
