Easter break in Philly

As you can see in this first picture «It’s (NOT) Always Sunny in Philadelphia»… but the trip worth it!

Philadelphia is the country’s first World Heritage City, is the birthplace of the US and it’s a great place to go on a weekend!

You’d rather

Go by bus. The trip from New York is quick and cheap. You have Mega Bus that does the ride in about 2.30h and has tickets from just for 1$.. yes, it’s true, just 1$!

You’d better

Stay overnight in the old city, this area is lovely! The buildings and narrow streets kept the 18th-century charm.

It’s also the heart of Philly, one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods with art galleries, funky boutiques, outdoor cafes and some of the best nightlife in the city.

It’s where you’ll find the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the Betsy Ross House, the President’s House, and much more historic places.

You should

Visit Barnes Foundation, the art collection has great works by Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Modernist masters, like Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani or Giorgio de Chirico.

The building designed by Tod Williams & Billie Tsien is an interesting interpretation of the way you should see art. The unique staging gives you the sensation of walking through an art collector’s home.

The best of all: that’s free on the first Sunday of each month.

You have to

Go for a walk in Parkway and you will feel like walking in an outdoor sculpture garden with works of famous artists like Robert Indiana,  Auguste Rodin, or Henry Moore.

This boulevard, coloured by international flags, is the spine of Philadelphia’s Museum District, which culmination are the Rocky stairs of Philadelphia Museum of Art. Along the way, you can see most of the city’s famous sights like the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul; Parkway Central Library, the Rodin Museum,  the Barnes Foundation, among others.

You must

Try the Philadelphia Cheesesteak, it’s absolutely delicious! You can find this tasty comfort food at Jim’s Steaks in South Street. You might be disappointed with the queue at the entrance, but I can assure you’ll forget it at the first bite!

The area is also cool, it’s known as the trendiest street in Philadelphia, like a melting pot of groups and cultures, mix seamlessly together on the storied boulevard.

Now you just need to pick a weekend to visit Philly and enjoy!
