A waterfall designed by Gaudí will be reconstructed

Within a year this jewel of the most important modernist architect ever will come to life again.

A trustworthy reconstruction of a waterfall designed by Antoni Gaudí will be reconstructed and installed in the Museu Agbar de les Aigües in the catalan municipality of Cornellà, near Barcelona. The original project was built in 1883 to refresh the garden of the Casa Vicens in Barcelona, the first Gaudi’s work, which was destroyed in 1945. This building will be also reopened next Fall after a meticulous reconstruction.

The reconstruction is led by the architect Josep Vicenç Gómez Serrano, an expert in the work of Gaudí. The original measures will be maintained and the materials and constructive procedures of the time will be used in order that the visitors of the museum discover a genuinely Gaudinian work. For reasons of sustainability incorporates a system so that the water that flows from the bow is permanently recycled.

This waterfall-building had a lower arcade from which a curtain of water rose, and on the upper part there was a gallery with the water-tanks on top. Around it was a small pond that collected the water. Over time the garden where it was settled was dismantled as they were selling parcels.

Daniel Giralt-Miracle, historical, stated about the waterfall:

» It was an original work in all concepts : Structurally, functionally and aesthetically.»

The first stone was put las May 18 and the waterfall is set to be inaugurated within a year.
