Beyer Blinder Belle completes The Brook skyscraper

The Beyer Blinder Belle studio has completed The Brook, a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper that redefines the skyline of downtown Brooklyn, taking direct inspiration from the district’s historic architecture. Located on a complex triangular plot at the intersection of DeKalb Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, and Fulton Street, the building stands 183 meters tall and houses 591 residential units, with a significant percentage designated for affordable housing, as well as commercial and service uses at its base.

The stepped volume and setbacks are used as a compositional tool to generate different visual readings depending on the street, deliberately moving away from the glass tower model that dominates the area. The façade, featuring perforated windows and champagne and bronze-toned metal frames, connects chromatically with the masonry tradition of Brooklyn’s historic neighborhoods and reinforces local identity in an urban context undergoing rapid transformation.
