The tallest skyscraper in Texas is nearing completion in Austin

Waterline is now almost complete on the Austin skyline. Designed by KPF, the skyscraper stands at 1,025 feet (312 m) and is officially the tallest building in Texas, surpassing I. M. Pei’s JPMorgan Chase Tower in Houston by just over 20 feet. With much of the structure and façade already in place, the tower closely resembles the silhouette shown in the initial renderings.

The composition is resolved as a tower on a sloping podium that opens toward the river, and the volume tapers in height with two very pronounced “breaks”: one at the base and another higher up. In both, the structural gesture takes center stage with exposed perimeter columns framing a recessed envelope, a feature that also appears at the base and crown. It is also Austin’s first official supertall, surpassing the 865-foot (264 m) Sixth and Guadalupe.
