Limberlost Place marks a turning point in solid wood construction in Toronto. This new ten-story, net-zero emissions building, designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects and Acton Ostry Architects for George Brown College, breaks with the old restrictions that limited these projects to six stories and transforms a former urban void next to Lake Ontario into a lively and active campus. Its solid wood structure has reduced embodied carbon by around 30% compared to conventional concrete construction, highlighting the climate impact of traditional structural solutions, especially in underground works.
