The Brooks + Scarpa architecture firm has designed a three-story house in Manhattan Beach that deliberately breaks away from the usual residential styles in the area. The house, called Alma Switch House, stands on a narrow, slightly sloping plot a few blocks from the Pacific Ocean and was designed for a family with three children. In contrast to an urban context dominated by rigid volumes and repetitive solutions, the project proposes a more open, fragmented architecture that is sensitive to its surroundings.
