Diller Scofidio + Renfro has unveiled the design of a new building at Boston University, which will become the tallest solid wood structure in the northeastern United States.
At 57 meters tall, the building will house the Pardee School of Global Studies and will be notable for its sustainable approach. Its all-electric, fossil-fuel-free design seeks to minimize material use and energy loss.
The monolithic structure will be wrapped in Sefar solar shading glass, allowing wood to be exposed in some areas. In addition, it will occupy only ten percent of the available land, with the remainder to be used for future green areas.
