During my third month working abroad at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, I’ve continued to gain invaluable experience and develop my skills in architectural design and technology. My immersion into Autodesk Revit has been particularly transformative. I’ve been deeply involved in creating detailed floor plans and high-quality renderings in software including Enscape and D5, applying my knowledge to actual projects. This hands-on work has enhanced my ability to design architectural elements and interiors, focusing on facades and intricate parametric patterns crucial for innovative architectural design, that has never been done before.
The firm’s commitment to innovation extends beyond project work, and I’ve had the chance to participate in various staff events that reflect this logic. The “lunch and learn” sessions have been especially enlightening, providing insights into cutting-edge products and technologies that are driving sustainability and efficiency in the industry. These events not only expanded my knowledge of the latest advancements but also highlighted how Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture continues to lead in architectural innovation and sustainability in the products we select for our buildings.
Balancing work with personal exploration has been a highlight of my time here. My weekends have been filled with visits from friends, which has been a great way to unwind and explore the vibrant city of Chicago. One memorable experience was an architectural boat tour with my family. This tour allowed us to appreciate Chicago’s impressive skyline and architectural diversity up close. Trump Tower, designed by the firm’s founding partner Adrian Smith, particularly captivated me. Its contemporary design and prominent location make it a defining feature of Chicago’s cityscape, embodying the cutting-edge architectural vision that the firm is known for.
My third month has been a rich blend of professional growth and personal discovery. The opportunity to apply new skills, engage in innovative practices, and explore a city renowned for its architecture has been both fulfilling and inspiring.
