New social housing block for New York

Architecture firm Studio Libeskind has designed a new housing block with affordable apartments for seniors in Freeport, New York. The 40,000-square-foot apartment building was developed by local NGO Selfhelp Realty Group to house low-income seniors and a percentage of formerly homeless seniors with support from the state government. The façade of the five-story structure features white cladding and a standing-seam metal roof. A series of facets and lines create visual interest as they cross the building’s façade, lowering the roofline at points and creating asymmetrical protrusions.
