The architecture studio Faulkner Architects has presented CAMPout, a unique home in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The firm took the surrounding context into account, using a material palette inspired by the basalt boulders and sugar pines that littered the forest floor, creating a sense of calm and connection throughout. The team was careful to design a structure that would minimize the risk of fire. Glazing was limited at the exterior interface with the combustible environment, while the courtyard was designed to maximize the amount of natural light and provide a secure connection to the pine forest.
